Zanzibar President Hussein Mwinyi has commended Chama Cha Mapinduzi's (CCM) Women Wing (UWT) for its great contribution in strengthening the party. He said the women wing has been an important pillar in strengthening the party and has been participating well in all its endeavours among others, the general elections to ensure the party remains in power.
The President made the remarks at the State House in Zanzibar, yesterday when he held talks with the UWT leadership, which paid him a courtesy call to congratulate him for his one year outstanding performance in office. In the course, the UWT leadership also introduced the new women wing Secretary General, Ms. Phillis Nyimbi to President Mwinyi. The Women Wing has been in Zanzibar for the past three days to accomplish various activities including organising a rally at Maisara Grounds and to congratulate the Union President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her exemplary leadership performance, since she ascended to power on March 19 this year.
Elaborating, Dr. Mwinyi applauded the women wing for organising the event to congratulate President Samia, adding that such forums encourage her to work hard for the party and the country. Equally, he expressed his happiness to the UWT for coming up with such great idea that unites the party members, adding that it cements relations between Zanzibar and Mainland Tanzania. President Mwinyi, however, congratulated the UWT new Secretary General Ms Nyimbi for taking up the position and expressed his confidence on her in achieving the development goals.
Earlier, UWT Chairperson, Gaudencia Kabaka applauded President Mwinyi for his exemplary performance in leading Zanzibaris. Ms. Kabaka said that the President's efforts has contributed in bringing development in Zanzibar, promoting peace and solidarity and in turn raising their economy. She promised Dr. Mwinyi that the Women Wing will continue supporting the Revolutionary Government to ensure that it attains sustainable development, the State envisions.
"UWT has confidence in your great efforts to make sure Zanzibar and its people promote development including fighting child abuse and related crimes," she added. The UWT delegation to the State House included the wing Vice Chairperson, Ms. Thuwayba Kisasi, Secretary General, Ms. Phillis Nyimbi and Deputy Secretary General (Zanzibar), Ms. Tunu Juma Kondo.
