On 27 November 2018, President John Magufuli inaugurated the largest library in East and Central Africa at the University of Dar es Salaam with the storage capacity of 800,000 books.

The USD41m/- worth library at the country’s long-time university becomes the largest library that China had ever built in Africa.

The library, which covers 20,000 square metres in area, can accommodate 2,100 students at once and is connected with 160 internet-connected computers. It also has a conference hall that can accommodate 600 people at a time.

This library joins the list of activities and projects that the government has executed for the good sake of improving education sector. Last year, 20 new hostel blocks accommodating 3,840 students were constructed at the University of Dar es Salaam.
