Mrs. Shoshan Haran Ph.D, Founder & Director of Fair Planet was honored to meet with Hon. Japhet Hasunga, Tanzania Minister of Agriculture, accompanied by H.E. Mr Job Daudi Masima, Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania to the State of Israel.
They held very promising talks about how to implement in Tanzania and in a near future a training and capacity building program for smallholder farmers to encourage the use of improved vegetable seeds and better knowledge-based farming practises.
Spreading the use of better seeds throughout the country and scalling up this impact will lead to a sustainable increase of farmers' income and thus enable their families to gain food and nutrition security, exit the cycle of poverty, send their children to school and provide them with a better future.
A fruitful cooperation is on the way!
Fair Planet is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to increase food security and provide new economic opportunities for the millions stuck in poverty.
The key solution for increasing smallholder farmers’ productivity and income is access to high-quality seed varieties. To realize this, Fair Planet partnered with the world’s leading seed companies and has access to thousands of seed varieties developed worldwide.
They team up with local Universities and cooperate with the Ministry of Agriculture of Israel, KKL-JNF, Mashav and Netafim.
Their projects are led by passionate volunteers who work together with local experts.
For instance, they have demonstrated in Ethiopia that smallholder farmers who use high quality tomato varieties gained yield that was more than 5-fold higher than the average national yield in Ethiopia. Higher yields together with better crop quality increased farmers’ profits from their small plots by more than 8 fold!
