Helpapp began operating in 2016 following a survey conducted for the OECD countries which showed that the proportion of volunteers in Israel is only 7%, and that more than 30% of Israelis would like to volunteer but are unaware of volunteering opportunities. Helpapp has established multiple programs involving Israeli groups on humanitarian delegations to Africa and Asia, to volunteer with underprivileged communities, in particular children.

In the past couple of years, helpapp sent over 20 humanitarian delegations to volunteer at orphanages and schools in in Ghana, Uganda, Tanzania, South Africa and India. Their delegations comprise of a variety of volunteers, ages 18-70, from different religions, ethnic groups, professions, regions of the country and more. Helpapp keeps a continuous cooperation with the regional actors in the targeted countries, which allows to establish open lines of communication with regard to their needs.

Helpapp aspires to become Israel’s leading Humanitarian Aid organization in Africa by establishing local centers which will include a medical center, professional training classes, warehouse storage for humanitarian supply, and accommodations for volunteers. Israelis with relevant expertise will hold training programs for the local community in agriculture, carpentry, education, etc. Israeli nurses on a few months’ missions will treat community members and provide basic medical services where these services are not accessible.
