On November 2018, he became Ramat Gan Mayor.
Prior his position as Mayor, Carmel Shama-HaCohen was Israeli Ambassador to the OECD and UNESCO in Paris.
He was also Member of the Knesset as the Chairman of the Economics Committee of the Knesset promoting social issues such as regulation and taxation.
